Welcome to the 2018-2019 School Year!
Welcome to 8th Grade Language Arts! In this course, we will read and analyze a variety of literature that correlates to the Common Core State and NC Essential Standards. Learners will expand their comprehension, reasoning, writing, and communication skills through a variety of strategies, including literature circles, Paideia seminars, academic conversations, document-based questions, close reading and metacognition, and creative presentations. Learners will also study grammar and vocabulary in an inclusive manner, as well as through targeted lessons.
This year's school motto is: Becoming Unprecedented. Teaching is my passion. I teach to inspire learners to never settle for less than their best. It is my why. To that end, I promise to prepare you with the skills and knowledge you will need to be successful in the future as high school students and adults. It will not be easy, though. Before we can celebrate your successes, you will need to put forth your best effort in all that you do. After all, a wise man once said, “Good is the enemy of great.” If you settle for being good, you will never experience what it feels like to be great. I believe wholeheartedly in this notion, and I hope you do too.
Parents: Please be sure to join us on September 20, 2018 for "Curriculum Night" to learn more about your child's classes this school year.
My tutorial sessions are held on Tuesday mornings from 7:15 A.M. to 7:45 A.M. *Additional days/times are available upon request.
Google Classroom and Homework:
I will be using Google Classroom (classroom.google.com) this school year. Google Classroom is a secure place for students to connect and collaborate, share (upload) content and educational applications, and access class notes, handouts, and homework.
